Cities 97
We started the Copperheads in 1998. Our affinity for Southern Roots music provoked us to mix Country and R&B. We do feel quite at home with the low-key intensity of Southern Soul, Swamp Rock, and soulful Country. Also, in our infinite wisdom, we thought it truly was a niche that needed filling in the Twin Cities.

Bill Davis has played with the Pop band, Jon Ken Po (which is now Terramara); Marc Johnson with the Pop band, Moe Factor (recorded with Butch Vig and Chris Mars); Matthew Fox with Clint Hoover, Peter Ostrouscko, and Gary Raynor; Thomas Larson with the Acoustic-Country band Lamas the Renegade.

In 2004, we met former Floridian, Jim Nee, in Willie’s American Guitars (a Roots player’s Mecca in St. Paul, MN). Jim used to play and record extensively around the SE states (as did Matthew, who comes from Georgia). His bandmate was J.D. Foster, a regular with Dwight Yoakam, Patti Griffin, and Nancy Griffith.

We have played with national recording Artists: Bobby Bare, Jr., Junior Brown, Rosie Flores, Wayne Hancock, Ty Herndon, the Iguanas, Jack Ingram, Wanda Jackson, Shooter Jennings, the Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Robison, Chris Scruggs, and Joe Simon.

That’s our M.O. We don’t often chase after taste-makers or crash through life providing vicarious thrills. Instead, we just work steadily to make Artful and distinctive Americana, Roots Rock, and Country-Soul music.

::QUIZMASTER:: Tell us who the ace rhythm section players were on the Staple Singers’ song, ”I’ll Take You There“ or write us press kit-worthy anecdote about a Copperheads gig and we’ll send you one free T-shirt or the LP, Cold Mississippi.

Do both and we’ll send you two items of your choice (any CDs or T-Shirts).

::BILL’S CORNER:: Bass player & Vocalist Bill Davis had a really wonderful suggestion at our last Schooner gig. Considering the amount of money we are making, he thought we must be qualified to change this website’s status to www.thecopperheads.org. Oh, that Bill! Sometimes, to myself, I refer to him as Bill the Pill.
